…a reciprocal link!

If you have a website and you want to see it rise in the rankings, then you need links. Apart from some basic SEO, it's links that Google values the most, specifically those pointing to your site with relevant anchor text.

So why am I blathering on about reciprocal links?

Surely, they went out with the dodo?

Well, first of all, I'm always a fan of the underdog and reciprocal links are sooooo underrated.

Remember when all the gurus started spouting that reciprocal links would do you more harm than good and that one way backlinks were the way to go?

Nonsense.

Some of the most powerful links I've ever received are two way links from an associated website.

Here's how to get them…

Do some research for which sites are ranking high for the keywords you're targeting.

Pick 5 - 10 sites.

Look over there sites and make notes of any stand out features they may have. You may warm to… a particular article for instance.

Now, write an email to the owner of the site(s) you've researched and mention that you like the site…  particularly the feature you've picked out.

Ask them if they'd be interested in exchanging links since your sites share a common theme. Ask them if they could put your link somewhere other than the standard links page.

That part is crucial.

I've received PR5 and 6 links just by doing this very method.

Do you think I got some traffic? I'm on the first page of Google for a keyword with 9 million competitors…all because of reciprocal links. No joke!

So, before you pay heed to what the gurus say, test these things for yourself.

In my eyes a combination of reciprocals and backlinks created from article writing are the most powerful force right now.

They may sound dated methods…but the results you'll get from them certainly haven't aged.
