Google have announced that they're getting pretty fed up of people buying text links in order to improve their rankings. As their guidelines have always said …“Don’t participate in link schemes designed to increase your site’s ranking or PageRank.”

This makes me wonder what will become of something like Text Link Ads. At the moment, I personally love Text Link Ads. I build up one of my sites to a high PR and I can then sell space on my site to other sites by renting out links for, say, $20-$40 per month.
What a great way to earn money!
The thing is, how on earth are Google going to be able to distinguish which are paid for links and which aren't?
On the other hand the idea of trying to ban these kinds of links does seem good from an ethical point of view. It, for example, will stop corporations from bulldozing in and buying up hundreds of links and getting a massive head start. In theory anyway. In their eyes Google are levelling the playing field.
Should be an interesting outcome, keep your ear to the ground…
