Sometimes, you can't see the wood for the trees.

You can get so into making money on the net - all the techniques, systems, formulas, books, tools and memberships that you forget what you're actually supposed to be doing.

Sometimes, you need to bring it right down to the basics and start again, refreshed and more effective than  before.

Here then is how to make money on the internet in the most basic, stripped down terms…

It Begins With A Web Page

You've got to have something out there in cyberspace that people are going to see, read and act upon.

You've got to have at least one web page to have a chance of making a buck online.

Sure, there are affiliate methods where you can drive traffic to someone else's web page - but really, if we're building a business here, we need our own web page on our own web site.

Fill That Page With Goodness

Now ideally the page should be targeting a certain keyword(s) or key phrases to rank in the search engines.

If you already have a blog which is highly trafficked and has plenty of regular readers then you may not want to worry about keywords etc.

You should fill the page with meaty original content, make it a pleasure to read and the rewards will be great. Give unto the web and the web shall giveth in return

Monetize That Page

Once we've got a nice page full of juicy content, we're free to start monetizing it.

Depending on the page, it may be wise to either place adsense (easiest option) or affiliate product links on there. If the web page in question is a sales page then all the content should be pointing toward them clicking on the "order" button. Likewise, if you're aim is to get people to sign up to your newsletter then a good "subscribe me" box will be in order.

This part is entirely up to you, there is no "best" way to monetize a page, it all depends on your strategy.

Get Eyeballs To The Page

Obviously, we want people to see our creation or else…what's the point?!

We do this with links… and lots of 'em. Get links from directories, forums, blog networks, other websites, article sites and other link building creations. Make sure your links use anchor text with your keywords and key phrases in it. Make sure you vary this too - don't let all your links look the same. Google loves variety.

Build Another Page…

That, in essence, is it. Not so hard now eh? Just keep building and keep driving traffic. Tweak your conversions (you may want to learn copywriting) or just test different products and adsense placements.

Oh yes, one more missing ingredient… get off your backside (or rather sit down on it) and do it!
