It seems to me that a lot of the time making money online can be a pretty souless game.

All this talk of money, money, money leads to greed and desperation. The steady, soul-sucking search for a way to make a buck online can really start to take it out of a guy (or gal).

Do you know what I'm talking about here?

Perhaps I just don't have the "business" mind that some other marketers have where it's all "figures" and "spreadsheets" and throwing numbers at a problem or specific market until you're turning a buck.

I just can't do that.

I've tried setting up niche websites or blogs about subjects which I really have no interest in, but whose keywords have little or no competition - these are easy pickings you see.

I start off doing really well. I design the site, I start getting traffic and making a few dollars but then my mind moves to other, more interesting ventures and the original site tails off and shrivels up from neglect.

You've got to keep yourself interested or your site (and therefore income) will suffer.

That's a fact.

But wait a second. I know what you're thinking - "we can't all make sites about movies or music or our passions - there's too much competition." That may be true but I can guarantee you there are always untapped sub-niches within niches from which you can harvest gold.

Besides, once you've got a few passionate sites or blogs up and running you can then put your income towards other sites which you know will make money but you couldn't care less about the subject or your visitors.

Which brings me to another point. If you don't give a fig about your site content, how on earth are you going to provide value to your visitor. And that, my friends is the name of the game.

Provide value to your visitor and the money will come all of its own accord.

I hope I prove to you that this blog, the one you're reading right now, is not some scheme to make money (although that will be a side effect), it's a result of my passion to get you earning online and to help you break free from being an employee.

Susan @ 12:43 am

Matt,

Great post and I couldn't agree more. Thank you for submitting your post to the “Blog It And Earn It” blog carnival. This weeks edition can be found on LifeIsRisky at Blog It and Earn It May 8 2007 Edition.

The post will go live tonight at midnight (EDT). I hope you take the time to click over and read the other submissions and comment on the edition as a whole. This is my first time hosting a blog carnival and I must say I feel it was a great success.

Thanks again and I look forward to reading more of your posts in the future. Also, we are still looking for a host for next week's carnival, why not drop your name in the hat? :)

Matt @ 8:35 am

Thanks for your kind words Susan. I do think Blog Carnivals are still an underrated (overlooked?) factor of internet marketing. I think I'll write a post about them soon.

In the meantime, yeah, I'll pop over to your site in a while…

You've Got To Have Passion!

Something often missed out in IM tutorials, it takes a lot to keep plugging away in a niche if you're just not interested in it!
